Um instrumento indispens\u00e1vel na \u00cdndia, usado no campo religioso, na m\u00fasica cl\u00e1ssica entre outros.<\/h3>\t\t\t

O harmonium pode ser comparado em seu funcionamento ao acorde\u00e3o, por meio de um fole o ar \u00e9 bombeado para um espa\u00e7o fechado, com o teclado abre-se passagem para o ar e as respectivas palhetas (\u201cl\u00ednguas\u201d met\u00e1licas que vibram \u00e0 passagem do ar sobre elas) produzem o som.<\/p>\n

Sua origem \u00e9 diferente do que muitos imaginam. Na realidade, a origem do instrumento foi um tipo de \u00f3rg\u00e3o utilizado em igrejas europeias durante a Idade M\u00e9dia, que lembrava muito um piano.
\nO instrumento chegou ao subcontinente indiano no s\u00e9culo 18, com a invas\u00e3o do ingleses. L\u00e1 ele passou por algumas modifica\u00e7\u00f5es: perdeu os pedais que bombeavam o ar e ganhou um fole para ser usado com a m\u00e3o, perdeu os p\u00e9s e se tornou um instrumento de ch\u00e3o. Adaptou-se muito bem ao estilo musical indiano por ser simples de ser tocado e acompanhar muito bem a voz.
\nAs sete notas utilizadas na escala da m\u00fasica cl\u00e1ssica indiana s\u00e3o shadja (\u0937\u0921\u094d\u091c), rishabh (\u090b\u0937\u092d), gandhar (\u0917\u093e\u0928\u094d\u0927\u093e\u0930), madhyam (\u092e\u0927\u094d\u092f\u092e), pancham (\u092a\u091e\u094d\u091a\u092e), dhaivat (\u0927\u0948\u0935\u0924) e nishad (\u0928\u093f\u0937\u093e\u0926), que s\u00e3o abreviadas para Sa, Ri ou Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, e Ni. O conjunto dessas notas \u00e9 conhecido por \u2018sargam\u2019 \u2013 um acr\u00f4nimo das consoantes das 5 primeiras notas.<\/p>\n
